One of the truest graphs ever created. Well done Precision Nutrition.

On Friday I mentioned a term called deep health that I learned from Precision Nutrition. They are, what I consider the top source of relevant and effective nutrition information out there today. Here is the definition in their own words:
“At Precision Nutrition we believe in something we call deep health. Deep health doesn’t come from a pill or an operation. Deep health comes from a balanced diet of fresh, whole foods. It comes from sufficient exercise combined with genuine rest. It comes from clean air and clean water. And it comes from living with purpose and joy, and using your life as an expression of these things.”
And in a recent article on why you should overindulge every now and then, they defined what deep health means:
  • We are physically robust and resilient, able to act effectively in the world and enjoy a high level of physical function.
  • Our minds are wise, agile, and kind, helping us solve problems creatively and make thoughtful choices that align with our deeper principles.
  • Our emotions are available to us and used for good — to take action, to signal something that we need to attend to. Overall, our balance of emotions is positive.
  • We enjoy healthy, strong, affirming relationships and a variety of high-quality social connections.
  • We are constantly growing and developing, repairing and recovering, strengthening and flourishing, in whatever ways we are able to do so.
I think that is awesome! Never stop challenging your body, mind, soul, and spirit. That is my definition of "having it all". When you don't have a part of your life that is seriously deficient you have a much happier life.
We talked last week about treating yourself like you are someone you are responsible for caring for and I gave you a few options to start with. Many of those were geared to the physical side of things.
After the physical is taken care of, start dialing in the rest of the items on the deep health list. Are you exercising your mind? Studying, reading, puzzles, etc..
How is your emotional level? Do you have swings way up and way down?
How is your social life? Social media does not count. Do you get around close friends and family who lift you up and make you a better person? Get around people who love to see you win.
What new things did you learn last year? Are you in a rut? Take up a new sport, learn a new language, start a small business. Be who you want to be when you grow up!
Be happy with who you are, but never stop improving who you could be.
