There was a pretty big college football game between two red teams this past weekend. You might be familiar with the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs. They played an amazing game on on Saturday, with most Bama fans I know being ecstatic that Jalen Hurts was able to come off the bench and lead his team in the come from behind victory.
Jalen Hurts was Alabama's former starting quarterback and even the SEC player of the year. But was relegated to the bench after Tua Tagovailoa became the starter. This where Jalen can teach us all 3 lessons in resilience that I think can also carry over into losing weight and getting in shape.
Have you ever been in a situation where it looks you will never lose weight or get back into shape again? It can be a desperate and soul crushing situation. If that is you right now, go through these 3 steps to fight your way back.
1. Do you need to transfer programs?
There was a lot of speculation over the summer that Jalen would transfer to another school so he could become The Man again. He weighed his options, did his research, consulted with his coaches, and ultimately decided to stick with Alabama.
You need to look at the program you are doing right now. Is it the right one for you or do you need to try something else?
2. Go to work!
Once Jalen decided that Alabama was still home, he went to work. Didn't complain, did everything he could to help his team get better (even the guy that took his position), and consistently worked hard to improve even when it looked like he was going to be second string all year.
Once you choose your program, go all in! I see people all the time who are not losing very much weight in the beginning, especially if they have had trouble losing weight in the past. But they continue to show up for their workouts, continue to improve their nutrition habits, and then it finally starts to happen! And once it starts, the weight seems like it just starts falling off.
3. Have a coach who believes in you
The big knock on Jalen Hurts in the past is that he was not a very good passer. It is clear to me that the quarterback coach for Alabama, Dan Enos, has been working extensively with him. It is unfortunate, but usually the backup becomes a forgotten man in college football. Luckily for Alabama's season that is not the case with this team.
One of the most important things I do for my clients is help them believe in themselves. It's because I truly believe I can help them! One of my favorite things is seeing someone overcome an obstacle that they used to think was impossible. We all need that in our lives!
Find someone who will pick you up when you are down, celebrate with you when you are successful, and help you continue to push your limits and do the impossible.
