I'm reading a book about the great basketball coach John Wooden. He was known for his strict attention to even the smallest details. He had a rationale for that too:
"Big things are accomplished only through the perfection of minor details."
This quote reminded me of another book I read years ago called Mindless Eating by Brian Wansink. In his book, Wansink talked about something called the mindless margin.
This means that we can eat 10-20% more or less without being aware of it. Do you really realize it when you eat 200-300 calories more or less each day? Most of us don't.
Although small and mindless, cutting out 200 calories a day out of regular diet could mean to 20-30 pounds of weight loss in year's time. Small change over the long-term results in a massive result. That is why the details matter.
So how do we fight something that is "mindless"? First thing to do is track what you eat. Use an app, pencil and paper, or at the very least be aware of what and how much you are eating.
The second is another small detail, but can make a huge impact. Use smaller plates and bowls. In "Mindless Eating" Wansink recommends cutting your plate size in half. By doing so, you will take in 30% less calories per meal. That is amazing!
Just by becoming aware and using a smaller plate, you could drastically cut down on excess calorie consumption. Not too shabby. There are other things you need to do to be successful and ensure you are losing weight safely and appropriately, but that is a pretty good start.
I am currently taking clients for my brand new Level 1 Nutrition Course. The focus in this program is not on the "what" you should be eating but one's environment and "how" you eat.
The program focuses on 6 skills, some practiced for 7 days and others for 14 days. Mastering these skills will allow you to "mindlessly" make progress towards your weight loss goals. These foundational skills set the stage for the "what" you will eat. That comes in Level 2, which is coming soon!
On-line nutrition coaching programs can cost $200-$400 a month! I believe the results you get and the concepts you will learn are worth that, but I want to make it more accessible to more people.

So this course is $39/month. You pay for the first month and then if you like it you can pay for the next month later. It's not your thing, you don't pay for the second month.
