My son and I were staying at the Raccoon Mountain Campgrounds in Chattanooga last week. We had an amazing time and got inspired to play some tetherball after we watched Napoleon Dynamite.
It started raining, but true tetherball champions play through that type of stuff. Things were going great, lots of fun and laughter, and then it hit me. Something was missing.
That something was my wedding band.
Went into panic mode and immediately started searching the area. Tall grass, mud, and rain made searching pretty tough. Plus, with the mighty tetherball swings I was producing that ring could have flown anywhere.
Went to the front desk and miraculously one of the ladies there was going to borrow her husband's metal detector and bring it to work the next day. Problem solved!
The next day I am waiting at the office for when they open and then I see it come parading in. The hero of the day, the metal detector.
I get some quick instructions and off I go! And nothing. And then even less than nothing. To make a long story short, it turns out the metal detector is broken.
And so were my spirits. I just knew I was going to get that wedding ring back! I gave myself a few minutes for a pity party and then I moved on.
Didn't beat myself up, no more second guessing and wishing I hadn't been playing tetherball in the rain. It is hard to go forward while you are looking backwards.
You missed a workout/3 workouts/only exercise is skipping the gym? Ate really terrible for a day/week/most of your adult life?
Giving yourself a guilt trip is not going to fix all of those things. And most of the time it makes it worse! Assess your situation, figure out the pitfalls you need to fix, get a plan, and keep moving forward.
Don't look back any more, you aren't going that way.
