My son is the one rocking the very, red shoes

Three years ago I wrote about how huge it was for my son to score two points in his basketball game. Two points! That may seem like nothing, but it was a huge boost of confidence for him. You can read about that here: Greatest Two Points Ever
My son (we call him B) really struggled when he first started playing basketball. He’s really tall and a good athlete, but had never played before so it was very frustrating for him. The other kids seemed so much better and made it look easy.
But B went to work. Practiced all the time on his own, started playing with ABA (a really competitive and awesomely coached organization), got in more training outside of practice, and was very coachable.
The amount of sweat and effort has really paid off. He has transformed himself as a player and I am really proud of him.
He told us yesterday, he made his middle school team! Such an awesome moment to se how proud of himself he was.
We still celebrate when he does something good because we know all that it is the result of the hours he has put in. My wife and I high five a well-set screen, strong pass, good box out (even if he doesn’t get the rebound), and all the other small things he couldn’t do not long ago. We remember.
Take a look at your fitness journey. Do you ever think back to how far you have come? Think of all the things you can do now that you could not do last year?
I see people all the time that could barely walk a lap around the parking lot, now sprint the whole thing! People that could not do 1 pushup on their knees, knock out 20 on their toes. I’ve seen someone who was recovering from cancer who could not make it through an entire class become a fitness machine!
Recognize and celebrate the victories, big and small, on your road to success. They will help keep you motivated and remind you that you that you are headed in the right direction. Any progress toward your goal is a good thing.
Keep working hard, be coachable, do all the little things (inside and outside of your workout) you need to succeed, and you will get there.
PS- if you don’t feel like you are headed in the right direction, please reply to his e-mail and let’s figure out what we need to do to get there.
