Anyone who has ever done any writing knows how painful it can be. Sometimes I will just stare at a blank screen hoping some words will magically jump on the screen.
If you have read any of my posts, you probably realize pretty quick that I don't have a firm grasp on grammar or even spelling with spellcheck sometimes. For instance, I put a comma in there but I'm never absolutely sure if it goes there.
So it is a minor miracle that I am not only able to write 3 of these posts a week, but also I'm an Amazon Best Selling Author. Not sure if you knew that about me, but just in case I wanted to brag on myself.
How was I able to do that? Besides the miracle part, there is a method behind the madness. Rather than thinking I had to write a book in a certain amount of time, I just made it my goal to write at least 500 words a day. If you told me to write a book it would be so overwhelming I would probably never even start. But 500 words a day? I think I can do that.
The average book is about 55,000 words so in 110 days I would have a book. If I wrote more or less it would obviously mess up that schedule, but by making it my goal to write 500 I could stay on track without getting overwhelmed.
What does that have to do with you? First, it might explain why there are so many grammatical errors in these e-mails you get from me. Second, it's a reminder to break down your big goals into small, manageable chunks.
I did the same thing when I did a half marathon I had not trained for a few years ago. I hadn't run 3 miles, much less 13 so I knew it was going to be rough. My wife and I made it our goal to just not stop running. We didn't care about speed, just motion. And I wasn't thinking about 13 miles, I would just pick out the next mile marker or aid station or spirit team.
The same thing is especially true when you are wanting to lose weight. When I lost 50 pounds, it did not come on overnight and it definitely did not leave overnight. If you lose 1-2 pounds a week, you could lose 50 plus pounds! You have to be patient with yourself.
And you have to be willing to put up with the peaks, valleys, and plateaus along the way. But keep reminding yourself of your big goal, keep breaking that goal into smaller bites, and don't give up on yourself. Great things are possible for anyone willing to keep after it.
