Musician Mike Posner recently walked 2851 miles across America. He started in Asbury Park, NJ and walked all the way into the Pacific Ocean in Venice Beach, CA.
I listened to a podcast that was recapping his trip and found it really interesting. It's not every day a Grammy nominated, millionaire walks across our country.
He would get up every morning at 4am, stretch have breakfast, and then start walking. As you can imagine, he went through some hard times. Including being hospitalized after getting bit by a snake.
He used two concepts I thought were really impactful that I wanted to share with you.
Big Me vs Little Me
When times started getting real hard and he wanted to quit he say, "No that is little me talking. Big Me is going to keep going.," Having that strong, inner voice can be so powerful!
Because we all go through hard times and every day there is an opportunity to make that choice. Do I quit or can I keep pushing just a little further?
We all have more in us, use that Big Me more often.
No Out Clause
That's the thing about exercise and eating right for most of us. We could easily quit any time, do less in our workouts, eat more junk food, etc...
It is not REALLY life and death for the majority of people. And humans naturally seek comfort over pain, so we ease our foot off the gas pedal and take things down a notch. We are doing good enough, right?
We all have that OUT when we need it. What if you have yourself a NO Out Clause like Mike Posner did? He was going to walk across America if it killed him. That was how deep he was in it!
That is something I miss about jiu-jitsu. There is no slowing down or quitting when someone is trying to choke you or break your arm.
When I quit my guaranteed paycheck every two weeks no matter what government job and went full time into my no guaranteed income business it was scary! Failure was not an option so it made me do the things I had to do to be successful.
How far could you go if failure was not an option?
I'm not saying you have to walk across America or quit your job. What I am saying is that you have more in you. Bring out the Big Me and don't give yourself an out.
You only have this one life. Why not live it looking and feeling as good as possible for as long as you possibly can?
